Elmhurst Hospital Center will be performing procedures using their replacement $3 million linear accelerator, housed in an existing suite, located in the Department of Oncology in the "E" Building. The new Varian Medical System machine has a sophisticated state-of-the-art three dimensional system, which is the industry standard. The unit allows providers to plan cancer treatment to diseased organs, with minimal impact to adjacent non-diseased areas.
The unit features the greatest number of energy options to treat the widest range of patients; the most precise focal spot size for optimum portal imaging; and the highest dose rates across the energy spectrum for greater throughput. These capabilities enable the most advanced computer-driven IMRT treatments, as well as conventional therapy techniques. With the new device in place, the hospital's ability to provide a greater array of treatment options to patients and providers alike will dramatically increase.
