Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center unveiled their new Maternity & Nursing Unit on November 29, 2006. The 17,000 SF suite is located on the 5th floor of the hospital, adjacent to the existing Labor and Delivery Suite. This is the first phase of a 2-phase modernization of the Labor, Delivery and Recovery (LDR) Suite/Birthing Center at Lincoln. In Phase II of the project, which will be completed in the next 12 months, the existing LDR will be remodeled, creating 9 labor rooms and 2 C-section rooms. Lincoln Medical Center accommodates approximately 3,000 births annually.
The new suite contains 36 maternity beds – 15 semi private, 5 private and 1 isolation room, with approximately 250 SF per room. The new nursery accommodates 32 bassinets for the newborn nursery, treatment and formula rooms. The remodeled suite was designed to provide home-like comfort and more efficient service. All patient rooms feature color televisions, cozy lounge chairs, wardrobe and private toilets. The nursery is located immediately adjacent to the maternity beds in an optimal arrangement for the mother and her baby. The unit’s nurses’ station has been enlarged and is accessible to the nursery, allowing continuous interaction between staff and patients and their families.
The space is attractively designed and features cloud and rainbow wallpaper in the nursery, wavy patterns in the vinyl flooring, modern wood finishes, Corian countertops and accent lighting. The centerpiece of the suite is the curved viewing partition at the nursery which allows families and visitors to greet the newborns.
