In January 2009, the fourth phase of Kings County Hospital Center’s campus-wide modernization project was completed providing a new 300,000 SF state-of-the-art Behavioral Health Center. Sitting west of the existing “ABC” Buildings, the new seven-story “R” Building is connected by a basement level link to the “ABC” and “T” Buildings and, at the first-floor level, to the “ABC” Building. The new “R” Building houses both in-patient and out-patient facilities for Behavioral Health and Chemical Dependency patients (230 beds) which were originally dispersed in eight outdated buildings on the Hospital campus. The budget for this building was $153 million. Construction began in July 2005 and was substantially completed and occupied in January 2009.
