Gouverneur Modernization

Gouverneur Healthcare Services has broken ground on the construction phase of its $180 million, four-year modernization project.  The modernization project is part of the city-wide, five-year, $824 million capital investment program to modernize and rebuild New York City Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC) facilities and further improve the quality of healthcare services for all New Yorkers.

The new facility, expected to be complete by 2012, will remain at its current address, 227 Madison Street.  It will house a new ambulatory care pavilion, The Center for Community Health and Wellness, designed to serve more than 345,000 outpatient visits a year – a 15% increase from its current capacity.  It will also create The Residence at Gouverneur Court, a modern nursing facility.

Gouverneur’s modernization project will upgrade the existing infrastructure, expanding primary care and preventative care services, transforming the clinical and residential environments, and creating a larger, modern, 295-bed nursing facility.  Consolidation will separate the ambulatory care and nursing facility into separate areas of the new building.  These changes will create staffing and functional efficiencies, increase outpatient capacity and increase the number of beds.  In addition, the long term care facility will have a more homelike atmosphere, centered around resident “neighborhoods” with a mix of private and semi-private rooms, living rooms and family-style eating areas.

The project was designed by the RMJM Hillier Architects and will be constructed by Hunter-Roberts Construction Company.  The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) will be the construction manager.
